How does Sitagliptin and Metformin HCL work?
Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of a natural substance called incretins. Incretins helps to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. They also lessen the amount of sugar that your liver creates.
Metformin HCL works by helping to restore your body’s proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. This also lessens the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your intestines/stomach absorbs.
Why use Sitagliptin and Metformin HCL?
Sitagliptin and Metformin HCL is a combined medication with its brand name Janumet XR. Sitagliptin belongs to the class of drugs called DPP-4 inhibitors. Metformin HCL is in the group of drugs known as biguanides. This is supplied as tablets for oral use. Each tablet is available in the strengths of 50 mg, 500 mg, and 1000 mg. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already approved this medication.
How to use Sitagliptin and Metformin HCL?
This prescription is to be taken by mouth as directed by your doctor. Preferably, it is taken once daily in the evening. Swallow the tablet as a whole without chewing or crushing it. Don’t forget to take it in the same way and at the same time every day. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to the treatment. Do not suddenly stop taking it without consulting your doctor. It is important that you take it exactly as it is prescribed.
