Nicardipine Hydrochloride may be used with other medication such as sublingual Nitroglycerin to relieve attacks of chest pain. This must be taken regularly to be effective or as directed by your doctor.

How does Nicardipine Hydrochloride work?

Nicardipine Hydrochloride acts specifically on the muscle cells in the walls of arteries that cause them to relax. This allows the arteries in the body to widen. The relaxing and widening of the small arteries in the body lessens the resistance that the heart has to push against. This reduces the pressure within the blood vessels. Nicardipine can, therefore, be used to lower high blood pressure.

Why use Nicardipine Hydrochloride?

Nicardipine Hydrochloride is a type of medicine called calcium-channel blocker. This blocks calcium channels in the muscles. Calcium is needed by muscle cells for them to contract. It causes the muscle cells to relax. This allows the arteries in the body to widen. Nicardipine Hydrochloride is a prescription approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is supplied as sustained-release capsules for oral use. Each capsule is available in strengths of 30 mg, 45 mg, and 60 mg.
