Donepezil Hydrochloride belongs to the class of medications called cholinesterase inhibitors. This is available for oral administration in film-coated tablets. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this medication.

How does Donepezil Hydrochloride work?

Scientists believe that Alzheimer’s disease may result from a deficiency in chemicals or neurotransmitters. In which it is used by nerves in the brain to communicate with one another.

Donepezil Hydrochloride inhibits acetylcholinesterase. It is an enzyme responsible for the destruction of one neurotransmitter which is acetylcholine. This leads to increased concentrations of acetylcholine in the brain. The increased concentrations are thought to be accountable for the improvement seen during treatment with this medication. This will also improve the symptoms but does not slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
